The Genesis G80 EV is expected to release around late 2021 as a 2022 model year vehicle with price expected to start around $70,000 USD

Report:
Genesis G80 test car in front of rapid charger, maybe electric car?
On the 7th, a test vehicle, estimated to be a Genesis G80 electric vehicle, was captured at the Oksan Service Area in Busan on the Gyeongbu Expressway.

The test vehicle is completely covered by the gastrointestinal tract. However, through the dish-type 19-inch wheel, quad-lamp, and crest grill, you can quickly recognize that this car is the Genesis G80.

What is unusual is that the vehicle hood is opened and the quick charger is connected to the engine room. It seems likely that the positioning of the charging connector has not been completed, or it may be a test mule with a G80 body overlay.

There are claims that Genesis is preparing a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, but the vehicle is more likely to be a pure electric vehicle. This is because PHEV does not currently support the rapid charging function. The charger in the rest area where the test vehicle was observed is also a rapid charging standard.

Hyundai Motor Group has announced the establishment of 14 electric vehicle lineups by 2025. The Genesis brand is expected to release its first electric vehicle in 2021, which was confirmed once again in a recent Hyundai Motor's 1Q conference call. In addition, it plans to start full-scale electrification of the Genesis Genesis lineup from 2024.

Major foreigners predicted that the mass production model of the concept car 'Mint', which was unveiled in New York in 2019, will be Genesis' first electric vehicle. However, as the test vehicle based on the G80 was witnessed, it is estimated that two or more electric vehicles are being prepared.

That's the first time I've seen an EV charge with the roof open. It's pretty weird to see haha, but like the article says the charge port seems unfinished.

How do you know it's going to start at $70,000?

Level 3 is impressive and within range of what Tesla offers.

This 2021 Genesis G80 Pricing and Feature Comparison goes over important details that any serious buyer should pay attention to:
"Genesis just announced pricing on the new 2021 Genesis G80 and it looks like the upstart luxury company will continue to undercut the competition by a decent margin while providing the best warranty in the segment, high predicted reliability and a ton of standard goodies."

Its said that the eG80 will rival the Porsche Taycan and Audi E-Tron GT.

Genesis Working On Secret Weapon To Fight Audi And Porsche
The 2021 Genesis G80 debuted earlier this year with sharp styling and a choice of two powertrains, including a standard 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four with 304 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque or an optional 3.5-liter turbo V6 producing 380 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque.

These won't be the only variants of the luxury Korean sedan available, however, as spy shots have also shown Genesis will expand the G80 range with a plug-in hybrid version. A fully electric G80 that will reportedly be called the eG80 is also expected to arrive in 2021 to fight the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan, and now Korean Car Blog has revealed the first details about the electric luxury sedan.

The publication's sources claim the Genesis eG80 will have a battery pack that enables the electric sedan to last 500 km (310 miles) on a single charge. It will also be equipped with advanced Level 3 autonomous technology, as part of a joint venture between Hyundai and Samsung, meaning the driver will be able to take their hands off the steering wheel and keep their eyes off the road in certain scenarios but will still need to stay alert to intervene if necessary.

While BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, and Volvo have made electric cars capable of delivering ranges of over 248 miles, they have yet to offer Level 3 autonomous technology. This was supposed to be one of the unique selling points of the Audi A8, but Audi recently abandoned these plans.

Like the combustion-powered G80, the eG80 will be equipped with a variety of advanced driver assists, including smart cruise control, pre-active safety seat, forward collision-avoidance assist, and blind-spot collision avoidance assist. A heavily camouflaged prototype of the Genesis eG80 has also been spied with styling cues carried over from the combustion model, including the quad headlights and crest grille. In the prototype, the charger is connected under the hood, but the position of the charging point probably hasn't been finalized.

When it goes on sale, expect the Genesis eG80 to cost a premium over the regular version. While the Genesis G80 starts at $47,700, the eG80 is expected to cost over 100 million won in Korea ($81,597). The Genesis eG80 will be one of 14 new electric models Hyundai plans to add to its lineup by 2025. Genesis also plans to electrify its entire lineup by 2024.

Wow, if I wasn't interested already I am now. The Taycan is a serious machine and if Hyundai/Genesis comes up with something that can rival it that's going to be huge.
