The trick is making a good product because eventually people will catch on.
Celebrity endorsement is like getting someone to write good copy for a product. it might work out well but if the product doesn't live up to the hype, it will continue to fall and create big problems that could have been avoided from the very start.
Think back to any product you really like and similar traits follow.

Hyundai has been taking the right steps to make improvements with every new model year. If the rumors that they 2020 is basically a brand new car, that should really up its credibility and standing amongst rivals.

I don't think people choose their new car based upon celebrity endorsements, but its all about more product awareness. I feel like a lot of people discredit Genesis models because they see them as just another discount alternative.

for the majority of people that don't know anything about cars you'd be surprised to see how many are influenced by what they see influencers on social media and TV do
it happens all the time and has proven to be one of the most lucrative ways to advertise

People are always going to be skeptical of a new brand, as it takes time to prove your credibility and build up a consumer base. Genesis has come a good way since their first generation models and they are well on their way to becoming a more recognized luxury badge.

Korean brands have done well at getting spots in major sports which over the years played out into sales.
Noticed this for myself at some NBA games, walking to and from my vehicle and seeing an increase of Hyundai and Kia products compared to other venues where they're not nearly as common.
At some point all these vehicles offer the same thing and comes down to marketing. Sad truth.

The number of people coming to Genesis model from a competing brand I would imagine is quite low. Most of them are probably previous Hyundai owners who already recognize the value and build quality of their products. With proper updates and improvements with each new MY, their proposition will only grow stronger.
