Hyundai has been going back and forth with reworking their dealership network as more new models enter their lineup. Came across some interesting photos of some high end concept boutiques that are currently being discussed for Australia. This new flagship studio will apparently open in March and could preview a rollout of other brand new dealerships.

I just don't get it.

Here we have a luxury brand that's pushing for opulence meanwhile its selling vehicles in what I can see as a minimalist environment. Replace these luxurious models with fully electric models, even at half the MSRP and they'll not only fit right in but actually feel like they belong.

Why can't we get showrooms like what Mercedes does?

I thought that Hyundai had decided against building stand alone stores? I don't know why they wouldn't just build premium wings on already existing dealerships, because that would also provide better coverage/availability across the country. They'll learn fairly quickly whether these new boutique shops are a worthwhile investment, but I see it as an unnecessary expenditure.

Shops like these are likely only going to be in higher volume areas where they anticipate larger adoption rates. I'm not sure if these designs are finalized, but I agree that there is still work to be done if they hope to compete with other premium dealerships. As test stores they can see what kind of impact they have on the consumer experience and if that translates to actual sales.

It might just be a matter of testing different retail store models because even in other industries you see similar changes taking place.
Probably the most popular i've seen are pop up shops however i don't know the cost-benefit of it vs traditional methods in the auto industry.

I agree they should just be making stand alone sections of existing dealerships. This money should be going into training their reps to ensure that customer service is on a level expected from a luxury company. You shouldn't be seeing regular Hyundai models and employees at all during your visit.

They still have market testing to do, to find the best way forward but availability of even their new models is still a big concern. So they are going to have to build new locations in areas that are lacking proper support/coverage.

One vital thing we dont see are there numbers which might just indicate no further action is necessary to get people buying Genesis, at least for now.
Considering the options we have in the luxury segments, nothing compared to what Genesis offers.

Sales of the G80 have been declining since 2017 and last month they only sold 473 cars in the U.S. I don't think this has anything to do with the quality of their products, its simply how difficult they are to come by. You'd have to be really dedicated to buying one to travel out of state, rather than just looking into what local BMW and MB dealers have on their lots.

I bet if some Mercedes product was in the same position that wouldn't be the case, some fool would take the massive depreciation along with another hit once the successor releases months later.
For that reason, in this case it might be a good buy if someone waits out the storm till dealers that have them are desperate to sell, thus offering incentives you can't refuse.

Based on the number of used G70's that are online, there are already some great deals to be found. If something similar happens with the G80 we should be seeing some great incentives on lightly used models that get traded in. Depreciation can work to your advantage if you dont mind CPO's.
