here's another observation: the auto lights feature will turn on your headlights when it senses dawn/dusk, but the interior LCD display, which is supposed to do the same thing, if set to auto, will change from light to dark (day or night) or vice versa at slightly different times than the headlights? My best guess is the light sensitivity sensor might be located both inside and outside for the 2 features which can vary their trigger.

Your theory is probably the correct one. That's an odd setup as my previous cars have always had the interior match the exterior lights when set to auto.

That is really weird.. With my previous vehicles, if the illumination was turned all the way up and past the "click", then the auto wouldn't change the display brightness at all, but if you put it right below the "click" and it's on max, it would work with the auto lights. That was the best I could word that... terribly sorry and hope it makes sense.
