Still very new, having just been spun off from Hyundai, Genesis may not have all that many models in their lineup but what is in their stable are refined and provides customers with outstanding value. Arthur St. Antoine from Automobile Magazine had an opportunity to test drive the G80 AWD 3.3T Sport and he found it to be one of his favorite Genesis yet.
Some may find the $58,725 base price a bit steep, but Genesis does not hold back when it comes to standard features and the G80 AWD 3.3T Sport test car came fully loaded. Features like heated and ventilated front seats, carbon-fiber and aluminum interior trim, premium leather upholstery, ull-color head-up display and more are included at no additional cost.
The piece du-la resistance is the model's 365-horsepower twin-turbo V-6 engine. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, it sends 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque to the car's HTRAC all-wheel drive system.
That's enough to give the luxury four-door a sporty feel. Put your foot down and the sedan will surge forward fast enough to bring a smile to your face, a feat considering how this piece of machinery weighs almost 4,600 pounds.
"There's no turbo lag to speak of, and, really, very little sense you're driving a turbo at all. Instead, you enjoy smooth, quiet power that never seems lacking."
His one complaint was that Genesis could do more to the G80 so that it earns the Sport moniker. Perhaps do better than a set of 19-inch all-season tires. Overall, it is an extremely pleasant vehicle and the best Genesis has to offer.
