2018 Genesis G80 Sport Is Like A Glass Of Fine Wine

Autoguide calls the new 2018 Genesis G80 Sport to a vehicle with cult-wine quality, but at jug-wine prices. An accurate description considering how many standard features the 5 Series-sized sedan is equipped with.

Compared to the entry level G80, the sport variant comes with a plethora of features including a large mesh grille, black mirror caps, sill extensions, a reworked rear bumper with quad exhaust tips, and a set of 19-inch rims is hiding 3-inch front brake rotors.

Of course the interior receives a few upgrades as well with carbon fiber trim, black suede headliner, and bolstered bucket seats with contrast stitching. While the badge does say sport, the cabin is practical and spacious, enough to comfortably seat larger passengers in the rear and carry their luggage in a truck that measures more than 15 cubic feet.

Compared to similarly equipped rivals like the Mercedes-Benz E300, BMW 530i, Volvo S90 and Cadillac CTS, the G80 provides more value for its price. The Sport model even comes with plenty of standard tech like rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic high-beams, multi-view camera, full LED headlamps, wireless device charging and a 9.2-inch touchscreen navigation display.

Driving the G80 Sport is a 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, producing 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. Featuring an eight-speed automatic transmission, the G80 is quick to respond and it didn’t miss any gears during Autoguide’s test drive.

All this for a MSRP of $56,225, including $975 in freight charges, if a buyer decides to go with the base rear-wheel-drive model. All wheel drive can be had for around $3,500 more.

I would say the new E-Class is more like fine wine, the G80 is nice but not that nice.

However maybe a future iteration will be but Hyundai has a very long way to go in order to prove that. Mercedes is at the top of the game right now.

This is my kind of fine wine:
